WESU is having their bi-annual record fair on Sunday, April 7^th.

It's free and open to the public and will take place from 11am to 4pm in Becham Hall/ Fayerweather, located on 55 Wyllys Ave, in Middletown,CT. 

The record fair will feature new and used music in all formats ranging through all genres. There will also be WESU DJs spinning vinyl live along with WESU selling merchandise. 

PLUS there will be good food and games. So come join us and the fine folks over at WESU for this great event!

WFMU Benefit Record & CD Fair!

WFMU was named "Best Radio Station in the Country" by Rolling Stone magazine for four consecutive years.  Some fans of the station include: Velvet Underground founder Lou Reed, The Simpsons creator Matt Groening, filmmaker Jim Jarmusch and playwright Eric Bogosian, Neutral Milk Hotel frontman Jeff Mangum, Kurt Cobain, Led Zeppelin lead singer Robert Plant, Sonic Youth guitarists Lee Ranaldo and Thurston Moore, and many more. 

The station also helps out the community and fellow radio stations.  WFMU began voluntarily hosting the webcast of legendary New Orleans jazz music station, WWOZ, when its studio and transmitter were destroyed in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.  WFMU took donations for the WWOZ and raised over $70,000. 

In the destruction of Hurricane Sandy WFMU was hit pretty hard.  They lost a lot of equipment and had to cancel their annual record fair.  The fair is one of their major sources of funding.  In effort to help out the station a record swap is being held (organized by our friend, Malcolm Tent of Trash American Style):

WESU (the radio station at Wesleyan University) is holding a Free Community Record Fair that is open to the public (that's you and me and everybody)!  

The fair will be held in Beckham Hall on the Wesleyan University campus (45 Wyllys Ave. Middletown, CT). Vendors will be selling new and used music in all formats.  There will be other vendors there such as the Hartford Area Roller Derby selling delicious baked goods and more!  Everyone should come out for the music and stay for the delicious food and awesome company.  Another plus is, we will be there!  There will be a Redscroll Records booth, so if you guys have any questions or requests hit us up!  You can check out more information on their Facebook event page.

The WESU Spring 2012 Community Record Fair And Sale At Wesleyan University

is approaching fast. April 15th from 11AM-4PM we'll be selling some wares there along with a variety of vendors. There will be a couple food trucks outside once again. I've definitely found some gems there in the past and am looking forward to finding some more.

The fair can be found just off High Street in Middletown at Beckham Hall (45 Wyllys Ave., Middletown, CT 06459 to be precise).

After all the WFMU fair isn't around again until the end of October!

Connecticut has a lot going on this weekend. Here are three things that we will most definitely be in attendance for.

1. WESU Fall Record Fair (Facebook Event). Last year we scored a ton of great stuff for way cheap! Sean got a a copy of Botch "We Are The Romans" LP /300 for $30, that's a steal! We'll have a couple of tables of stuff from our store set up along with 17 other dealers.The Hartford Area Roller Derby girls will be selling baked goods as well. Get sugared up and dig hard. There will be a couple food trucks outside too. This fair is FREE. 11AM - 4PM. Saturday, November 12th Beckham Hall Wyllys Avenue, Wesleyan University Campus Middletown, CT.

2. After the record fair, we'll be heading down to The El'N'Gee in New London, CT to catch a performance by legendary Connecticut natives, Youth Of Today. This show is brought to us by Brass City Boss Sounds, so head over to their site and secure your ticket to move up front and shout out loud. 

The last time I saw YOT was 1999. They played a reunion show in Wallingford. It was originally supposed to be at the Extreme Skatepark, but it got moved to the Polish Club down the street. I'm glad it did because the floor of the 4th floor warehouse the skatepark was in would have absolutely caved in. At that time, Jamey (Hatebreed, Stillborn, Jasta) had a small record store called Subterranean in the center of town. The day of the show, a bunch of local kids got recruited to help out. I got left at the shop by myself. No one gave me the key to take the security cases off of CDs, so I was cutting them out with pliers. People from all over the world flew in for that show and had to come to Subterranean to pick up their tickets. I have a really vivid memory of trying to explain to some nice European dudes that I couldn't take purple money. 

When I arrived at the show that night, I remember the hall was packed super tight and it felt like it took forever from the time the doors opened to when Right Brigade started that night. As soon as the feedback started in, the floor opened up wide. Dudes were moshing so hard, the floor boards were bouncing up and down and I could barely stay on my own two feet, let alone defend myself from getting hit. I made my way to the side of the stage and managed to watch the rest of the show from the speaker stacks. Youth Of Today was amazing that night. I can't put the vibe of their set into words.

3. Sunday brings us a night of brutal hardcore rituals by Salvation (Youth Attack), Hoax (Youth Attack) & Brass Caskets will be taking place in a secret location (Facebook Event). To be guided to the show, meet at Redscroll. We'll show you the way.

Josh and I (Rick) and our friend Ben will be at the WFMU Record Fair on Friday and Saturday. We'll have 2 tables set up. The fair goes through Sunday, but we'll not be there that last day. It is the best event like this anywhere. There are hundreds of dealers (dealer list here) with a wide variety of specialties. And there are other special events and performances (Prince Rama, Black Hollies, CSC Funk Band... list). If you can't make it, but want us to keep a look out for something in particular please feel free to send us an email with what it is you'd like us to look for and (this is important) how much you'd be willing to pay for it.

Josh, Brian (Iron Hand), and I (Rick) will be at Southpaw in Brooklyn, NY tomorrow from 10AM until 4:30PM selling (and buying) records.  If you're in the area or if you have nothing going on then make it out.  The dealer list looks incredible (it is on the Facebook Event Page linked below the flier). Every great dealer in the area that I can think of will be there.  

Sean will be at the shop in Wallingford all day - wish him a belated happy birthday (it's today). The shop's used section might be a bit slimmer than you might want for the day (we're bringing 3 tables worth of records) so excuse that.  We'll bring back what's left and whatever deals we find at the fair Saturday night and we'll have it ready for sale on Sunday at the shop.

Have you ever been to a record fair?  No.  Read on.  Yes, well unless you've been to this one you still have no idea how huge this thing is and you should still read on.  Actually, beyond reading you can view this single take I did with my camera - I just held it at chest level and walked around the fair (trying not to double back ever - but there is an awkward area where you basically have to) occasionally turning to view things.  It's not a pro video by any means, but it gives you an idea of the drastic scope of this thing, the WFMU Record and CD Fair:

 This was our (Redscroll) 2nd year setting up at the fair.  It was a wild success once again.  Friday, we spent the day buying and setting up trades.  Saturday we sold and made some purchases, then Sunday we sold and bought again (a partial list of what we bought is at the bottom of this post).  If you follow us on twitter then you know that this event is also great for people/celeb watching.  I got to talk to Q-Tip (unfortunately, I couldn't really sell him anything; he also was trying to be as inconspicuous as possible with his hood up and sunglasses ever present - like the unibomber really).  Todd Barry and Horatio Sanz (I think) were there.  ?uest Love (The Roots, y' know?) was also there, but we didn't actually see him.  I'm betting there were other notables as well - I just didn't seem them.  Please do join us next year.

WFMU Record Fair

The WFMU Record & CD Fair is happening this coming weekend.

The WFMU fair is huge. It is basically the biggest one that happens in the world on any given year. True Story. If you can think of a record then most likely it is there (well, maybe not all of them, but you know...).  Besides the records and CDs there are also a ton of great interesting people (read: people watching for miles and miles).

Josh, Ben (Mammoth Hunter) and I (Rick) will be at the fair Friday-Sunday. Redscroll Records will be set up on SATURDAY ONLY at tables E4 & E5. The list will be ridiculous when it's published so definitely keep an eye out for that.

Autumnual Rituals

Fall begins today.  Autumn.  

Scenery gets all colorful.  Food gets all appley and pumpkiny.  Clothes get longer.  Majick happens.  Pagans perform rituals while the darkness enshrouds this hemisphere.  School is in full swing.  Prime vacation time has passed (unless you are a wizard). 

Records start showing up everywhere.  There are a slew of record fairs.  The biggest fair we'll be set up at is the biggest one you can imagine: WFMU.  It is guaranteed that we will sell a bevy of vinyl there.  You can get a jump on that by buying up our good stock now! 

We spent all summer digging, hunting and following maps to hidden treasures.  We are overflowing with grade-A used vinyl.  It is a prime time to get here and dig through our stacks.
